Aaron “Jack” Niebaum, 96

Aaron W. Niebaum, 96, of Fremont, died Dec. 7, 2004, at Arbor Manor in Fremont.

Funeral services are 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 10, at Salem Lutheran Church in Fremont. Interment will be in Fremont’s Memorial Cemetery.

Aaron W. “Jack” Niebaum was born Feb. 12, 1908, on the family farm near Fontanelle to Herman and Lena (Boschult) Niebaum. He attended grade school at Fontanelle, and graduated from Fremont High School.

In 1932, he graduated from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln with a degree in agriculture. He also played baseball for the university and he played trumpet in the university band.

Mr. Niebaum farmed for four years, was employed by the University of Nebraska Extension Service, then was employed by Union Central Life Insurance in Beatrice. He also worked for the Federal Land Bank in Columbus.

In 1943, he moved to Fremont, where he owned and operated Niebaum Motor Company for 20 years, selling Studebaker automobiles. In 1965, he became Clerk of the District Court of Dodge County, retiring after 13 years.

He was a member of Salem Lutheran Church of Fremont, where he served on the church council and sang in the choir for more than 50 years. He was a charter member of the Optimist Club, and was an alumni member of the University of Nebraska Marching Band.

On June 16, 1937, he married Helen Wilkening. The couple marked their 67th anniversary this year.

In addition to his wife, Helen, he is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Gary Niebaum of Potter Valley, Calif., and Roger and Judy Niebaum of Fremont; daughter and son-in-law, Marci and Gerald Giesing of Omaha; three grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Dorothy Wilkening of Arlington; brother-in-law, Clarence “Kelly” Wilkening of Fremont; and nieces and nephews.

Memorials are suggested to Salem Lutheran Church.

Ludvigsen Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
