J. Niebaum Rites Held Saturday

Services for John D. Niebaum, 96, of 736 North Clarkson Street, Fremont, a retired farmer, were held Saturday in Salem Lutheran Church.

Mr. Niebaum died Thursday morning at his home. The Rev. Fredrick Boldt and the Rev. E.B. Keisler officiated. A memorial fund has been established for donor’s favorite charities.

Burial was in Fontanelle Cemetery.

Mr. Niebaum was born September 26, 1867 in Quincy, Illinois. At age of nine months he came to Nebraska with his parents. They lived at Telbasta where his parents homesteaded and broke some of the first prairie ground in Washington County. Mr. Niebaum owned the first family home and farm. He first attended church services in a log cabin and in his lifetime saw three churches built at Fontanelle.

He was married May 8, 1912 to Lena Landwehr at Fontanelle. She died January 23, 1958. They had farmed near Telbasta until 1939 when he retired and moved to Fremont. He was a member of Salem Lutheran Church. A niece, Mrs. Minnie Schaffersman, cared for him in his home.

Mr. and Mrs. Niebaum had donated funds for a library built in 1952 at Central Lutheran Theological Seminary.

Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Hanna Ruwe of Fremont and Mrs. John Ruwe of Hooper.
