Snoderly, Ellen 8/ 1923

Obituary printed Aug. 23, 1923, Tribune, Blair, Nebraska

Mrs. Ellen Snoderly

Mrs. Ellen Snoderly, who was buried from the Ft. Calhoun Presbyterian Church, August 19, 1923, the wife of the bee man at Rochport, was 68 years old, and has lived in that neighborhood for the past 20 or more years. The last time we saw her William Burdick and I were looking at one of the old lime kilns of 1819-27 that had left traces on their premises, when Burdick asked her what they would take for their property. She said this place is not for sale, this is our own home and we love it. On her little garden on top of the bluff she told us she had gathered and sold $50 worth of tomatoes and the crop was not all harvested. Camille Saltzman says this was a characteristic of the woman—a lover of home, devoted to her family, and constantly trying to be useful. There was a good gathering from the Garryowen and Rochport regions.

Rev. E.J. Seeker of Florence was the officiating minister, and the choir was Miss Seeker and Miss Keirle. The singing of “Abide With Me” and “Jesus, Lover of My Soul,” with the strong voice of the minister, were certainly beautiful. Pall bearers were W. Poland, M. Jorgensen, B. Beria, B. Boone, B. Conoly, P. Claycomb. The coffin was covered with a bank of beautiful flowers. This writer officiated at the funeral of Mr. Snoderly several years ago and his wife was buried by his father. -----W.H. Woods
