Bonita Jane (Knippelmeyer) Hilmer, 67

Bonita Jane (Knippelmeyer) Hilmer, 67, of Lincoln formerly from Blair, died Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2014, at her home following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

Funeral services are Monday, Nov. 3, at United Lutheran Church, 5945 Fremont Street in Lincoln with the Rev. Dr. Neal Anthony officiating. The time of service is pending. Visitation is 2-8 p.m. Sunday at Roper and Sons, 4300 O St., in Lincoln. Interment will be in the Tecumseh Cemetery.

Bonita Jane Knippelmeyer was born March 2, 1947, in Tecumseh, to Julius and Lula (Myers) Knippelmeyer. She grew up in Tecumseh and attended Tecumseh Public Schools. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Tecumseh by Rev. P.W. Sellman.

Following school, Bonnie moved to Lincoln to study cosmetology and hair design. Bonnie was united in marriage to Paul Hilmer of Newman Grove, on Dec. 15, 1990, and was an insurance agent in the community for many years, becoming a top seller and winning many distinguished service and sales awards.

Bonnie loved life and she lived it to the fullest. She loved her family deeply, and whenever possible she was always in the company of a grandchild or two. Known for being a wonderful cook, Bonnie often prepared delicious meals for sororities at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Family and friends often enjoyed her culinary talents over the years.

Bonnie was an outgoing, fun, and adventurous person who loved music and an occasional night out at the casino. She was a charismatic person who could captivate a room full of people with her personality.

Bonnie had a deep love for Jesus. She was a Christian minister through RBC Ministries. She was a very strong woman, and kept a positive and courageous attitude following her diagnosis with cancer. Her family and loved ones will miss her deeply.

Survivors include her husband, Paul Hilmer, of Lincoln; two children: Mark W. Henry (Dawn Moss) of Columbus and Sarah Mueller of Lincoln; son-in-law Jeremy Bond of Lincoln; stepson David Hilmer of Albion; eight grandchildren: Eric, Emilee, and Ian Henry, Katie and Michael Mueller, and Caleb, Gavin, and Ashtyn Bond; one great-grandchild Keilan Klink; five sisters: Alyce Chrastil, Mary Lou Lairmore, Norma Jean and Jim Hauptmeier, Judy Wolfe and Barbara Rawson, all of Lincoln; brother-in-law Don Rutt of Lincoln; sister-in-law Wilma Knippelmeyer of Fairbury; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Jennifer Lou (Lord) Bond; parents; sisters Marilyn Knippelmeyer and Elaine Rutt; and brother Jim Knippelmeyer.
