Carl C. Nielsen, 71

Blair native Carl C. Nielsen, 71, died July 15, 2006, at his home in Gold Canyon, Ariz.

Carl C. Nielsen was born May 1, 1935, in Blair to the Rev. J.P. and Gertrude Nielsen. He was a 1952 graduate of Blair High School and graduated from Dana College in 1956. He later received his master’s and doctorate degrees from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

He was a professor at Wichita State University in Wichita, Kan., for 30 years.

He enjoyed crafts, woodworking, and built two houses – one in Blair and one in Colorado. He loved camping and hiking in the mountains.

He is survived by his wife, Bonny; son and daughter-in-law, Carl Clifford and Karen Nielsen of Wichita; and three daughters and son-in-law, Deborah and Kim Woodrow of Wellington, Kan., Marjorie and Barry Adler of Oro Valley, Ariz., and Barbara and John Farrington of Wichita; sister-in-law, Gloria Jensen of Fremont; 12 grandchildren and one great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by his parents and parents-in-law, Margaret and Harold Christensen, and brother-in-law, Richard Jensen.

Memorials are suggested to Gold Canyon United Methodist Church or Hospice of the Valley.

Mountain View Memorial Gardens in Mesa, Ariz., was in charge of arrangements.
