Funeral services for Betty Christiansen of Logan, Iowa, were held Monday, Oct. 14, 2002, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Missouri Valley, Iowa. Interment was in the Prairie View Cemetery, south of Kennard. Mrs. Christiansen died Thursday, Oct. 10, at Immanuel Hospital after suffering an aneurysm at her home.

Betty Christiansen was born Feb. 17, 1937, in Rochester, Minn., to Raymond and Margaret (Mayo) Rasmussen. She attended grade school at Orum and graduated from Blair High School in 1954.

On June 22, 1957, she married Merle Christiansen at First Lutheran Church in Blair. They farmed west of Blair from 1957 until 1965, and then moved to Logan.

Mrs. Christiansen worked at several businesses including the Kennard Bank, Roy Rosenbaum Oil Tank Wagon Service, Taylor Oil Tank Wagon Service, Taylor Oil Company in Blair, Byron-Reed Equity Company, US West Communications, Mutual of Omaha, and Missouri Valley Implement, where she was employed at the time of her death.

Along with her work, Mrs. Christiansen was very active in St. Paul Lutheran Church in Missouri Valley, serving as church treasurer for 13 years, and singing in the choir.

She was a member of the Woodmen of the World Lodge No. 638, where she was currently serving as the Lodge’s secretary. She also served as the Jurisdictional President of the Iowa/Minnesota/Wisconsin District in 1999. She was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Missouri Valley, and the Women’s Bowling League, serving as League president.

She enjoyed gardening, knitting, reading, card club and spending time with her family and friends.

Mrs. Christiansen is survived by her husband, Merle of Logan; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Greg and Sally of Missouri Valley and Gary of Omaha. A daughter, Sandy Wrona of Omaha; four grandchildren; brother, Bill Rasmussen, of Blair; and two sisters and brother-in-law, Judy and E. T. Thompson, and Phyllis Bunten, both of Blair; several nieces and nephews.

Memorials are suggested to St. Paul Lutheran Fellowship Hall in Missouri Valley.

Hennessey-Aman Funeral Home in Missouri Valley was in charge of arrangements.
