Kenneth P. Thompson, 96

Kenneth P. Thompson, 96, of Blair, died Thursday, Nov. 6, 2014, at Oakland Heights in Oakland.

Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11, at Campbell-Aman Funeral Home in Blair with the funeral service to follow at 10 a.m. Burial will follow services in the Blair Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to the Blair Cemetery at 1:45 p.m. for military rites conducted by the Herman American Legion Post 274.

Kenneth P. Thompson was born July 5, 1918, in Blair. He was raised on the family farm southwest of Blair. He attended Gardner Country School and later graduated from Blair High School. After graduating high school, he farmed with his father.

In 1942, he was drafted into the United States Army. Before shipping out overseas he was united in marriage to Irene Winchell on August 4, 1943. He served in Germany, Belgium and Czechoslovakia during World War II and was awarded the Purple Heart while serving. Kenneth was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army on October 31, 1945.

After leaving the Army, Kenneth and Irene made their home in Blair where the couple moved several times while farming various locations in Washington County, before purchasing their own place west of Herman. The couple made their home and raised their family there for 41 years. After retiring from farming, the couple moved to an acreage.

Kenneth is survived by his daughters: Darlene Westphalen of Blair, Ellen Snell of Elkhorn and Rita Thompson of Omaha; grandchildren: Jason Snell, Brenda Westphalen and Amber Wells; great-grandchildren: Ryan, Kyle and Evan Snell and Kenny Wells.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Irene; and son Jon.

Memorials may be directed to the family for later designation.
