Mrs. Russell Christiansen was killed last Friday evening when the light truck in which she and her husband were riding hit loose gravel and overturned on highway No. 30, eight miles east of Kearney. Her right side was crushed and she was rushed to a Kearney hospital but was dead before she arrived at the hospital. Her husband escaped with minor cuts. They were on their way to Brady Island, Nebraska, where the husband had obtained employment.

Guralta Updike was born in South Dakota, March 26, 1911, and was graduated from the Blair High School with the class of 1929. Funeral services were conducted from the Baptist Church in Blair, Monday afternoon with Rev. L. J. Moran, officiating after which interment was made in the Blair Cemetery.

ACCIDENT VICTIM

Relatives and friends in this vicinity of Mrs. Russell Christensen were shocked to hear of her fatal accident which occurred last Friday, April 17, near Kearney, Neb., when the light truck in which she was riding with her husband skidded in the loose gravel and turned over. Mr. Christensen was unhurt and hailed a passerby who assisted him in getting Mrs. Christensen to the Kearney hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Guralta Updike was the daughter of Mr. And Mrs. Wilber Updike, formerly of New England vicinity, but now of Lyons, Neb. She was born March 26, 1911 at Wagner, S. D. and was just past twenty years old. She came to Nebraska with her parents when a small child and attended school in the New England district, afterwards graduating from the Blair high school in 1929. She was married to Russell L. Christensen at Council Bluffs, Iowa August 15, 1930. She was a member of the local Methodist church.

She is survived by her husband, her parents, one sister and five brothers and many relatives and friends who mourn her departure.

After a short service at the home of Mr. Christensen’s mother, Mrs. Burgess Sager of north Walker avenue, the funeral service was held from the Baptist church in this city on Monday, April 20, at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. L. J. Moran officiating. Interment was made in the local cemetery.
