Dean Snow services are held in Tekamah

Services for Dean Snow of Craig were held February 13 at Hamel & Peck Funeral Home in Tekamah, Nebraska. He passed away February 10, 1985 in Blair, Nebraska. Deane Carroll Snow was born March 6, 1897 in Craig, Nebraska to Charles Clement and Dora Freeman Snow. He attended Craig schools and followed many vocations during his lifetime. He farmed, worked as a well digger, a cement finisher, a carpenter and a butcher at the Tekamah Meat Locker for many years.

On March 6, 1918, he married Edna Danielson. To this union were born three children. On November 12, 1927, he married Rosa Shuey Weeces. To this union were born five children. He was the only honorary member of the Craig American Legion.

He was a member of the Craig Fire Department for over 25 years, an active member of the Rebeka Lodge and since 1923, when he was made Noble Grand of the I.O.O.F., he remained a member of the Odd Fellows at the Craig Park and built the covered bleachers and the shelter there. Deane’s many friends will miss his ready humor, wit and acute mind. His grandchildren will never forget the Sunday Nickel Ritual when Deane would give each grandchild a nickel from a seemingly never-ending supply in his pocket. Deane Carroll Snow lived 87 years, 11 months and four days.

He leaves to mourn his passing seven children: Wayne Snow of Spring Hill, Florida; Ethel Kosmicki and Louella Rahn of Omaha; Edwin Snow and Charles Snow of Park City, Montana; Richard Snow of Nampa, Idaho, and Sheryll Nelson of Harlan, Iowa. He is also survived by twenty-nine grandchildren, thirty-two great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Pallbearers were: Gerald Schmidt, Keith Philippe, Lawrence Knudsen, Donald Snow, Donald Rydberg, Steve Springborg. Honorary pallbearers were: Carroll Gardipee, Dorman Harney, Earl Christensen, Kenneth Olson, Lyle Tranmer, John Mitchell. Burial was at Craig Cemetery, Craig, Nebraska. Rev. Melva Tranmer officiated. The family requests that any memorials be given to the Rebeka Lodge of Craig, Nebraska, in memory of Dean C. Snow.
