Former Blair businessman Leland C. “Lee” Lucke, 76, of Lincoln, died Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2004.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 20, at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, 8550 Pioneers Blvd., Lincoln. Interment will be in Lincoln Memorial Park. Visitation began Thursday, but will also be held Friday, one hour prior to services, at the church.

Leland Curtis Lucke was born Nov. 16, 1927 in Rogers to William and Elsie (Quigley) Lucke. He graduated from Blair High School in 1945 and the University of Nebraska College of Pharmacy in 1951. His college was interrupted by service in the United States Marine Corps from 1946 until 1948.

He began his pharmacy career as a registered pharmacist at Wagey Drug in Lincoln in 1951 before opening Lee’s Pharmacy in Blair, which he operated from 1955 until 1971. He continued his career with the Nebraska Department of Health, Bureau of Examining Boards, starting as a pharmacy inspector in 1971 and retiring as Director of the Bureau in 1988.

Mr. Lucke was very active in the Blair community, serving on the Chamber of Commerce from 1955 until 1971 and on the board of directors from 1958 through 1961; City of Blair Planning Commission from 1959 until 1983 and as president from 1972 until 1975; Lions Club International, Blair Lions Club member from 1956 until 1972, and on the board of directors from 1959 until 1965; and as president from 1963 to 1964; First United Methodist Church, administrative board from 1963 until 1965, board of trustees from 1969 to 1983, usher, 1959 to 1962, and head usher from 1962 to 1972.

In the Lincoln community, he was active in the Lincoln Bethany Lions Club, board of directors, 1988 until the present, president, 1990 to 1991, treasurer, 1993 to present; St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, counting steward chairman, 1997 to present; Keenagers treasurer 1997 to present; and served on the Carriage Park Neighborhood board of directors and treasurer from 1989 to 1995.

Mr. Lucke was a member of the board of directors of the Nebraska Pharmacists Association from 1989 until 1992, and was treasurer from 1991 to 1992; served on several different task forces for the Nebraska Department of Health, Nebraska Board of Examiners, and Nebraska Pharmacy Coordinating Council. His former memberships include Rho Chi Society; Kappa Psi and Society of Sigma Xi. He was a current member of American Legion Post No. 3.

He was the recipient of numerous awards during his pharmacy career, the most notable were the Cora Mae Briggs Award, Bowl of Hygeia Award, College of Pharmacy Distinguished Alumnus Award, and the Nebraska MPJE Committee Certificate of Appreciation.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley (Phillips) Lucke of Lincoln; son, Jeffrey Lucke of Wichita, Kan.; daughters and sons-in-law, Lori and Dave Johnson of Blair and Connie and Neal Brennan of Glenwood, Iowa; and seven grandchildren.

Memorials are suggested to the Lincoln Bethany Lions Club or St. Mark’s United Methodist Church.

LUCKE - - Leland Curtis “Lee,” age 76, Lincoln, NE, died 2/17/2004. Lee was born to William and Eslie (Quigley) Lucke on Nov. 16, 1927 in Rogers, NE. Lee graduated from Blair High School in 1945 and the University of Nebraska College of Pharmacy in 1951. College was interrupted by service in the US Marine Corps from 1946-1948. Lee owned and operated Lee’s Pharmacy in Blair, NE from 1955 to 1971. Lee continued his pharmacy career with the Nebraska Department of Health Bureau of Examining Boards, starting as a pharmacy inspector in 1971 and retiring as Director of the Bureau in 1988.

Lee was very active in the communities of Blair and Lincoln, serving on several community organizations. Lee also served in several professional organizations and received numerous awards during his pharmacy career, the most notable of which were: Cora Mae Briggs Award, Bowl of Hygeia Award, College of Pharmacy Distinguished Alumnus Award, Nebraska MPJE Committee Certificate of Appreciation.

Preceded in death by parents. Survived by wife, Shirley (Phillips) Lucke, Lincoln, NE; son, Jeffrey Lucke, Wichita, KS; daughters and sons-in-law, Lori and Dave Johnson, Blair, NE and Connie and Neal Brennan, Glenwood, IA; grandchildren, Mike, Tim, and Emily Johnson, Sandra and Josh Kelly, Sam and Rachel Loerch.

SERVICES will be held 10 am Fri at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, 8550 Pioneers Blvd., Lincoln, NE. Burial Lincoln Memorial Park. VISITATION Thurs from 12-8 pm with family greeting friends and relatives from 6-8 pm at the Funeral Home and Fri 1 hour prior to service. In lieu of flowers, Memorials to Lincoln Bethany Lions Club or St. Mark’s United Methodist Church.
