STANLEY J. BEDNAR DIED IN KANSAS CITY SUNDAY

Stanley J. Bednar, Chairman of the board of the Washington County bank, died early Sunday morning in a Kansas City Missouri Hospital. Death was attributed to a heart attack.

Mr. Bednar and Mayor Alfred O. Sick were in Kansas City Saturday to see a baseball game. They had attended the game and had gone to a hotel to spend the night. Around 3:00 A.M. Mr. Bednar was stricken with an attack and a doctor was called. He was taken to Research Medical Center in Kansas City where his condition failed to improve. He died at 8:00 a.m. Sunday.

The deceased was born in Omaha May 8, 1913 and was 63 years of age at the time of his death. He came to Blair as a young man and was associated with the Washington County Bank where he worked up through the ranks until he became Chairman of the Board.

Through the years he took an active part in civic affairs.

He has been Chairman of the Board of Public Works which handles the business affairs of the Municipal Electric Plant, the water and the sewer plant. In 1960 he was President of the Blair Rotary Club and he had been Secretary of the Blair Chamber of Commerce.

He was Past Legion District Commander, a member of the Hain Flynn Post of the American Legion & was a past President of Group II of the Nebraska Bankers Association. At the time of his death, he was an Ak-Sar-Ben Ambassador, a post which he has held for many years.

He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Mr. Bednar was married to the former Dorothea Gilbertson who preceded him in death. He resided at the Sutton apartments in downtown Blair.

He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Henry Neef (Kay) of Blair and by a son, John Bednar, of Millard and a daughter Mrs. Kent Coen (Jean) of Grand Island. There are 10 grandchildren.

A brother Walter Bednar, lives at Bristane, California. There are three sisters. They are Mrs. Paul (Sophie) Krupa; Mrs. Louis (Ann) Brzenski and Mrs. Julius (Helen) Wieczorek, all of Omaha.

Funeral services were held at the St. Frances Borgia Catholic Church in Blair, on Wednesday morning, August 18th. Father Daniel Galas conducted the service and burial was made in Holy Cross Cemetery at Blair under the direction of the Campbell Mortuary.

Pallbearers were Harold Wright, Alfred O. Sick, Clark O’Hanlon, Jim Taylor, Everett Stork and Bob Duden.

Blair Rites For Banker

Blair, Neb. – Services for Stanley Bednar, chairman of the board of the Washington County Bank here, were Wednesday in St. Francis Borgia Church.

Bednar, 63 died Sunday in a Kansas City hospital. He had suffered a heart attack while attending a baseball game there last weekend, a family member said.

He had been with the Washington County Bank more than 40 years. A native of Omaha he started with the First National Bank of Omaha.

Survivors are a son, John, of Omaha; daughters, Mrs. Kent Coen, Grand Island, and Mrs. Henry Neef, Blair; a brother, Walter, Brisband, Calif.; and sisters, Mrs. Paul Krupa, Mrs. Louis Brzenski and Mrs. Julius Wieczorek, all of Omaha.
