ARLINGTON — The memorial service for Maxine L. Barton. 86, of Fremont, formerly of Arlington, will be 10 a.m. Monday at Arlington Community Church, UCC.

She died Thursday, Dec. 14, 2000, at A. J. Merrick Manor in Fremont.

Maxine Sims was born March 5, 1914, in Memphis. She lived at Ashland, where she graduated from high school.

She married Floyd Barton July 3, 1930, at Blair. After her marriage, she and her husband moved to a farm between Blair and Arlington.

Her spouse died October 1964. She moved into Arlington in 1968 and then came to Fremont in 1990. She had been residing at A.J. Merrick Manor in Fremont since 1994.

She was a member of Arlington Community Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Post 8332 of Arlington; and was a former member of the Just for Fun Club. She baked wedding cakes from her home and cooked at Camp Fontanelle, and also worked at the Arlington School Cafeteria for 10 years.

Survivors include: a daughter, Shirley Meyer of Elkhorn; two brothers, Jerry (and wife, Rosie) Sims of Fremont and Donnie (and wife, Lorraine) Sims of Ashland; five sisters, Dorothy Post of Omaha, Vivian and Harry Hagstrom of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Betty Kulhanek of Ashland, Susie Iske of Loup City and Jessie Sims of Orlando, Fla.; a brother-in-law, Roy Barton of Fremont; two grandchildren, Cheryl (Mrs. Wayne) Knoell of Elkhorn and Charlie (and wife, Val) Meyer of Lincoln; five great-grandchildren, Jamie, Mackenzie, Amber, Brian and Jared.

She also was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse and Maude (Allen) Sims; three brothers, Dale, Bobby and Frank Sims, an infant, brother and sister; a son-in-law, Delbert Meyer.

The Rev. Lynn Martin will officiate Monday’s service. A prayer service will be 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Reckmeyer-Moser Funeral Home in Arlington with family receiving friends 2-3:30 p.m. Sunday, all in the funeral home. There is no visitation. A private interment will be in Arlington Cemetery.

Memorials have been established to the Arlington Education Foundation and Arlington Community Church, and A.J. Merrick Manor in Fremont.

Former Arlington resident Maxine L. Barton, 86, of Fremont, died Dec. 14, 2000, at A. J. Merrick Manor in Fremont.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 20, at the Arlington Community Church in Arlington. The Rev. Lynn Martin will officiate. Private interment will be at the Arlington Cemetery.

Maxine L. Barton was born March 5, 1914, at Memphis, Neb., to Jesse and Maude (Allen) Sims. She lived at Ashland, Neb., where she graduated from high school.

On July 3, 1930, she was married to Floyd Barton at Blair. After her marriage, the couple moved to a farm between Blair and Arlington. She moved into Arlington in 1968, and then moved to Fremont in 1990. Mrs. Barton had been residing at the A.J. Merrick Manor since 1994.

Mrs. Barton was a member of Arlington Community Church, V.F.W. Auxiliary Post #8332 of Arlington, and was a former member of the Just for Fun Club. She baked wedding cakes from her home and cooked at Camp Fontanelle; she also worked at the Arlington School cafeteria for 10 years. She is survived by a daughter, Shirley Meyer of Elkhorn; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Jerry and Rosie Sims of Fremont and Donnie and Loraine Sims of Ashland, five sisters and a brother-in-law, Dorothy Post of Omaha, Vivian and Harry Hagstrom of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Betty Kulhanek of Ashland, Susie Iske of Loup City and Jessie Sims of Orlando, Fla., a brother-in-law, Roy Barton of Fremont, two grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, four brothers, Dale, Bobby, Frank and infant Richard, a sister, infant Shari, and a son-in-law, Delbert Meyer.

Memorials are suggested to the Arlington Education Foundation, the Arlington Community Church, and A.J. Merrick Manor in Fremont.

Reckmeyer-Moser Funeral Home in Arlington is in charge of arrangements
