James Bateman

Former Business Man Died Sunday

James T. Bateman, well known Blair man, died Monday, January 12th at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair. He had been in failing health for several years.

Mr. Bateman was a former Blair business man. A number of years ago he operated the Blair House motel south of Blair on U.S. 30. Later he purchased the Ted Kutsch interest on east Washington Street and operated a combined business of motel, service station and Dairy Sweet.

He was a veteran of World War II where he served in the Air Corps.

He was born June 1, 1915 at Toney, Alabama and was, thereĀ¬fore, 54 years of age at the time of his death. He came to Blair a number of years ago and was married to the former Dorothy Mencke, who survives his death.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his mother, Mrs. Bessie Bateman, of Birmingham, Alabama and by a sister and two brothers. The sister is Mrs. Francis Hill, of Huntsville, Alabama. The brothers are Thomas and Edward Bateman, both of Alexandria, Louisiana.

Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church Wednesday afternoon with the Rev. Richard Atherton conducting the service.

Burial was made in the Blair cemetery under the direction of the Campbell Mortuary.

Pallbearers were Ed Thompson, Earl Thompson, Clarence Schreiner, and Kenneth Pence.
