FUNERAL MASS Saturday, August 13 at 10:30am at St. Mary's Catholic Church, West Point, NE. Wake Service Friday at 7pm at the Stalp Funeral Chapel in West Point, NE.

Military Graveside Rites will be at St. Michael's Cemetery in West Point, NE.

VISITATION at Stalp Funeral Home in West Point Fri from 9:30am to 8:30pm.

Bruno C. Batenhorst, 76, of Blair, died Aug. 11, 2004, at Crowell Memorial Home in Blair.

A Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 14, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in West Point. Interment will be at St. Michael’s Cemetery with military honors at graveside.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 13, at Stalp Funeral Home in West Point, with a wake service at 7 p.m.

Bruno C. Batenhorst was born Dec. 10, 1927, on the family farm north of West Point to Bernard J. “Ben” and Elizabeth (Hunke) Batenhorst. At the age of 4, he moved with his family into West Point, where he attended Guardian Angels School, graduating in 1944.

He served with the United States Coast Guard from June 1945 until May 1946 and was stationed in Greenland.

On Sept. 27, 1950, he married Lorene Schultz at St. Mary’s Rectory in West Point. The couple lived in West Point, Beemer and Tilden, where Mr. Batenhorst worked for Minnegasco, a natural gas company. In 1973, he was transferred to Blair, and he retired in 1986.

He was a member of St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church in Blair, and the Blair American Legion Post. He was a past Lions and Blair Chamber of Commerce member. He also served as a volunteer firefighter.

He enjoyed playing cards, and was an avid sportsman who loved to hunt, fish and camp. He liked playing golf and baseball.

He is survived by his wife, Lorene, of Blair; daughters and son-in-law, Bonita Lambrecht of Norfolk, and Beverly and Randall Ashland of Blair; sons, Boyd, of Tilden, and Bryan of Lincoln; sisters and brothers-in-law, Gert and Les Wiegert of Beemer, Mary Ann and Jack Tomrdle of Wisner, Wilma and Jerry Lane of Lake City, Minn., Evelyn Collins of West Point, and Margaret and Larry Arter of Norfolk; brother and sisters-in-law, Chris and Dorothy of West Point, and Elizabeth Batenhorst of Gering; 11 grandchildren and their spouses; and three great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Edwin.

Memorials are suggested to the Guardian Angels or Central Catholic Endowment Funds.
