Edwin Batenhorst, 70

Services for Edwin Batenhorst, 70 of West Point who died December 1, 1992 at an Omaha hospital were Friday, December 4 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in West Point. Rev. Gary Ostrander officiated. Burial was in St. Michael's Cemetery in West Point.

Edwin Batenhorst was born September 3, 1922 in Cuming County. He graduated from Guardian Angels High School in West Point.

He served with the United States Army during World War II in the European Theater and was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He had retired from working at West Point Implement.

He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in West Point, Knights of Columbus and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 4912 of West Point.

He married Julia Neesen November 19, 1946. She preceded him in death October 13, 1971.

He married Elizabeth Freese November 25, 1978. She survives.

Other survivors include five sons, Larry and Keith, both of West Point, James, Mark and Patrick, all of Omaha; a daughter, Phyllis Knobbe of West Point; three stepsons, Dale Mahnke of Gering, Gale Mahnke of Elgin and Kenneth Mahnke of Fremont; two brothers, Bruno of Blair and Chris of West Point; five sisters, Evelyn Collins of West Point, Gert Wiegert of Beemer, Mary Ann Tomrdle of Wayne, Margaret Arter of Norfolk and Wilma Lane of Lake City, Minnesota; 13 grandchildren; 10 step-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren.
