Edna V. Nielsen, 89, of Creighton died May 22, 1998, at Lundberg Memorial Hospital in Creighton.

Services were Tuesday at Zion Lutheran Church in Creighton with the Rev. Paul Banitt officiating. The organist was Cheryl Werner and soloist was Shirley Kelley.

Pallbearers were Mark Nielsen, Scott Darrah, Tyrone Harris, Jason Nielsen, Bill Beckenhauer and Charles Kienow.

Burial was in the Greenwood Cemetery, Creighton.

Edna Viola Mathiasen was born April 18, 1909 at Minden to Walter and Emma (Borgaard) Mathiasen. She attended rural school near Minden.

On April 28, 1937, she married George M. Nielsen at Fredricksburg Lutheran Church in Minden. The couple later lived north of Winnetoon until 1952, then moved to a farm west of Creighton. They retired and moved into town in 1979. Mr. Nielsen died in 1985.

She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, ELCW and Senior Citizens. She also enjoyed card clubs.

She is survived by two sons and their wives, Ronal and Barbara Nielsen and Lyle and Alice Nielsen, all of Creighton; one daughter and her husband, Karen J. and Keith Wiegert of Blair; seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Oliver Mathiasen and Gordon Mathiasen; one sister, Margaret Quick.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George, and one great-granddaughter, Amber Beckenhauer.

Brokhaus Funeral Home in Creighton was in charge of arrangments.
