CHRIS CHRISTIANSEN

Chris Christiansen was born June 17, 1910 at Herman, the son of the late Peter Fransen and Olena Hansen Fransen. He was raised and received his education in Herman.

He was united in marriage to Evelyn Osburn on June 27, 1937 at Herman. Following their marriage, they continued living in Herman, where they owned and operated a farm, growing corn and wheat.

In 1942, they moved to Buhl, Idaho, where they operated a farm for eleven years until 1953, when they moved to Hillsboro, Oregon.

In 1955, they moved to the Forest Grove Community, having lived more recently on his twenty-one acre farm, just off Carpenter Road southwest of Forest Grove.

Christiansen owned and operated the Forest Grove Auction Barn. In 1959 he went to work for the Washington County Sheriff’s Department where he served as a Deputy for sixteen years, until 1975 when he retired. He was also a member of the Washington County Sheriff’s Posse, serving from 1953 to the present time. He was an auctioneer by trade and served for many years as the Washington County Sheriff’s Office Auctioneer.

He was well known for his oxen exhibiting throughout the northwest. He drove his yolk of oxen on the Bicentennial cross country trip in 1975 and 1976, completing the land and water route from Oregon City, Oregon to Pennsylvania, reversing the route the early pioneers took to open the Northwest Territory.

He owned and operated four teams of oxens. Christiansen had received much pleasure and had given much joy to many people with his teams of oxens. He sold the oxens in 1984 due to ill health.

Christiansen was a member of the United Methodist Church in Forest Grove. He was a member of the I.O.O.F. Washington Lodge No. 48 in Forest Grove, having transferred from the Twin Falls, Idaho Lodge, having been a member of the order for over thirty years. He was an Honorary Member of the Hillsboro Moose Lodge _____.
