Obituary William R Harper, Jr. 75

William R Harper Jr, 75, died Sunday, March 15, 2009, at his home in Kennard. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Thursday, March 19, at the Emmanuel Fellowship Church in Omaha. Interment will be in the Kennard Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at noon Wednesday, March 18, at Campbell-Aman Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 PM.

William "Bill" Richard Harper Jr. was born Dec. 4, 1933, in Kennard, to William Sr. and Pearl Wilderson Harper. He attended Kennard schools from grade school until graduation in 1951.

He worked at Union Pacific from 1952 until he retired in 1995. He also served in the United States Army for two years. On Aug. 15, 1953, he married Darlene Japp. Mr. Harper was a member of the Kennard American Legion, the John S. Bowen Masonic Lodge in Kennard and the Blair Masonic Lodge, MO-RI Shrine, 33-year member of Alcoholics Anonymous and a former member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Kennard and attended the Emmanuel Fellowship Church in Omaha.

He enjoyed golfing, road trips, card games and watching his grandchildren's activities.

He is survived by his wife, Darlene; daughter and son-in-law, Teri and Doug Wolfe; sons and daughters-in-law, Steve and Laurie Harper, Bruce and Janice Harper, Bob and Amy Harper, and Merle Harper; 10 grandchildren and one great grandchild; brother and sister-in-law, Sam and Geri Harper of Joplin, MO; sister and brother-in-law, Don and JoAnn Reed of Clear Lake, Iowa; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Patricia Brauer and Gwen Hansen.

Memorials are suggested to the Kennard Rescue Squad or the Emmanuel Fellowship Building Fund.
