Helen Elizabeth "Sue" (Ward) Hunter was born on April 18, 1929, in Kennard, Nebraska to Homer and Charlotte (Berry) Ward. She grew up in Kennard where she attended grade school and graduated from Kennard High School in 1946. She went on to UNO where she received an associate degree in business. As a young girl, Sue enjoyed skating and dancing.

Sue married Kenneth Hunter on June 17, 1951, at the Grace United Methodist Church in Kennard, Nebraska, and to this union three daughters were born: Karen Elizabeth, Kathryn Ellen and Kristine Emilie. Sue and Ken raised their family in Blair for a year and a half before moving to Kennard where they have remained.

Sue has worked for G. L. Dixon Insurance in Blair, owned Berry's Store in Kennard and owned Kremer Funeral Home in Omaha. She was active in the Kennard Fireman's Auxiliary, the volunteer fire department as an EMT and the American Legion Auxiliary Post #366. Sue loved the outdoors and time shared with her family, camping, boating and vacationing at their cabin on Lake of the Ozarks. Sue had a great memory and was a local historian and was a great source of information about Kennard.

Sue passed away on Thursday, June 26, 2008 at her home in Kennard, Nebraska, at the age of 79 years, 2 months and 8 days.

She was preceded in death by her parents Homer and Charlotte, brother William "Bo" and daughter, Karen Cummings.

Sue is survived by her husband Kenneth of Kennard, Nebraska; daughters and sons-in-law Kathryn and Larry Lumpkin of Elkhorn, Nebraska, and Kristine and Dave Warren of Kennard, Nebraska; 8 grandchildren Tina and Warren Kittle, Paul and Ann Morrison, Timothy Cummings, Patrick Cummings, Erik and Sherisa Lumpkin, Katrina and Matthew Stoffel, Kristopher Warren and Matthew Warren and 9 great-grandchildren Elizabeth "Betsy" Morrison, Zackary Morrison, Lucas Morrison, Charlotte Kittle, Griffin Kittle, Graeme Kittle, Hunter Stoffel, Carlee Warren and Noah Warren, sister-in-law Madeline Ward of Omaha, Nebraska.

Helen E. Hunter, 79, died June 26, 2008 at her home in Kennard. Services were Monday, June 30, at Grace United Methodist Church in Kennard. Interment was in the Kennard Cemetery.

Helen Elizabeth “Sue” Ward was born April 18, 1929, in Kennard to Homer and Charlotte (Berry) Ward. She grew up in Kennard where she attended grade school and graduated from Kennard High School in 1946.

She attended the Municipal University Of Omaha (later known as the University of Nebraska at Omaha) where she received an associate’s degree in business. As a young girl, she enjoyed skating and dancing.

On June 17, 1951, she married Kenneth Hunter at the Grace United Methodist Church in Kennard. The couple raised their family in Blair for a year and a half before moving to Kennard where they have remained.

Mrs. Hunter worked for G.L. Dixon Insurance in Blair, owned Berry’s Store in Kennard, and owned Kremer Funeral Home in Omaha. She was preceded in death by a brother William “Bo” and daughter Karen Cummings.

Reichmuth Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
