George “Joe” Fitch, 93, of Tekamah, died Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2014, at Golden Living Center in Tekamah.

Visitation was Monday at Campbell-Aman Funeral Home in Blair. Private family graveside services will be at a later date in the Herman Cemetery.

George “Joe” Fitch was born Jan. 1, 1921, in Herman, to Clyde and Amelia (Miller) Fitch. He was raised in Herman and attended the Herman School.

Joe joined the United States Army and served his country honorably in Europe during World War II.

On June 9, 1946, he was united in marriage to Phyllis Iverson at the Methodist Church in Herman.

After leaving the Army, he began working for Freeman Oil in Herman and later retired from the CO-OP in Tekamah.

Joe was an avid golfer. He played baseball for Herman in the Pioneer Night League. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Blair and the Blair Golf Club. He especially enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports.

Mr. Fitch is survived by son Steve (Patti) Fitch of Elkhorn; grandsons: Eric (Brittney) Fitch of Omaha and Kyle (Jenny) Fitch of Omaha; four great-grandchildren; sisters Donna Holstein of Alta, Iowa, and Francis Beard of Oakland; sisters-in-law: Lila (Raymond) Christensen of Omaha and Carol Podjenski of Omaha.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the First United Methodist Church in Blair or Hearts United for Animals.
