Shirley May Gutschow, 89, of Blair, died Saturday, Nov. 29, 2014.

The funeral will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church in Blair with burial in Holy Cross Cemetery in Blair. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church followed by a rosary.

Shirley was born Nov. 22, 1925, in Missouri Valley, Iowa, to John and Florence Young. They moved to Blair in 1938.

She graduated from Blair High School in 1943 and from the Clarkson Hospital School of Nursing in 1946.

She married Joseph James Gutschow of Blair on Aug. 25, 1947. They moved to the family farm north of Blair in 1950.

She worked as a registered nurse throughout her life, first at Bryan Memorial Hospital in Lincoln, then Clarkson Hospital in Omaha, then the Memorial Community Hospital of Blair, and finally the Blair Clinic. She retired in 1999.

She is survived by sons: John (Jane) Gutschow of Green Bay, Wis., James (Pam) of Kansas City, Mo., and Mark (Bonnie) of Blair; daughters: Mary (Chuck) Moller of Gig Harbor, Wash., and Amy (Chad) Kluza of Bennington; grandsons: Brock (Ellen) Moller of Bremerton, Wash., Scott (Erica) Moller of Omaha, Todd (Susan) Gutschow of Kansas City, Mo., Derek (Rachelle) Gutschow of Neenah, Wis., Mat (Danica) Gutschow of DePere, Wis., Blake Gutschow of Blair, Jared Kluza of Bennington and Tyler Kluza of Bennington; granddaughters: Heather (Jordan) Nelson of Parkville, Mo., Kelsey (Collin) Reekie of Fort Worth, Texas, Shannon (Mark) Jones of Gretna, Kiley (Elliott) Basset of Elkhorn and Teddi Gutschow of Superior, Wis.; 11 great-grandchildren; and brother John (Peggy) Young of Blair. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Florence Young; sister Elizabeth; husband Joseph James; and son Joseph James.

She will be remembered by everyone as a generous, loving and extraordinarily kind woman who was a mentor and servant to all.

She requested no flowers and asked that memorials be sent to either Special Olympics of Washington County (http://www.sone.org) or the Poor Clare Sisters of Omaha (www.omahapoorclare.org).
