George H. Jipp, 91

George H. Jipp, 91, of Blair, died Thursday, Nov. 27, 2014,at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair.

Memorial services will be 11:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 5, at the First United Methodist Church in Blair. Private inurnment will be at a later date in the Fort Calhoun Cemetery. Visitation begins 10:30 a.m. Friday at the church.

George H. Jipp was born Nov. 6, 1923, in Fort Calhoun, the youngest of 13 children born to Fred and Marie (Schumacher) Jipp.

He graduated from Fort Calhoun High School in 1942. George entered the United States Army Infantry in January of 1944 and served in France and was wounded in August of 1944. He was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star and was honorably discharged from the Army in September of 1945.

On May 7, 1949, George married Helen Burmeister of Fort Calhoun.

George coached YMCA baseball for his boys’ teams and served in Boy Scouts in Omaha. He was a Legion commander and worked at the Washington County Recycling Center and served on several committees at First United Methodist Church in Blair.

He was employed with Conservative Savings Bank in Omaha for 38 years.

Mr. Jipp is survived by his wife, Helen Jipp of Blair; three sons and families: Steven and Gayle of Omaha, Keith and Lowin Hawkins of Logan, Iowa, and Phil and Jenifer Starks of Omaha; four grandchildren: Andy Jipp and wife Kim of Omaha, Nicole and husband Lucas Rickersen of Dewitt, Iowa, Amy and husband Tom Schwertley of Logan, Iowa, and Doug Jipp and wife Kendra of Logan; eight great-grandchildren; stepsister Helen Gililand; sisters-in-law: Gertrude Jipp and Lona Burmeister.

He was preceded in death by his parents and stepmother Christine; nine brothers; three sisters and one great-grandson.

Memorials may be directed to the Blair Police Department, Blair Rescue Squad or the youth of First United Methodist Church.

Campbell-Aman Funeral Home in Blair is in charge of arrangements.
