MISS MINNIE NIELSEN

Blair friends of Miss Minnie Nielsen were surprised and shocked to learn of her sudden death at the M. E. hospital in Omaha on last Thursday, April 10, 1924.

Minnie had been ill for some time and had finally gone down to Omaha for examination and treatment and her many friends and relatives here were hoping for her speedy return to health and happiness.

She was born in Kennard, Oct. 17, 1888, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Chris S. Nielsen and was one of a family of twenty-two children, seven of whom now survive, six sisters and one brother. They are Christina, wife of Andrew Hoier, Marie, wife of Chris Gutschow, Sophia, wife of Henry Petersen; Elizabeth, wide of Thorval Jorgensen; Anna, wife of Marion Stricklett, Jennie, wife of Carl Gravenholt and one brother, Chris E.

The deceased was a most efficient clerk in the J. Mueller grocery and also in her father’s market for a number of years and has many friends who always knew her as obliging and courteous, kind and considerate of others and a loyal friend.

Funeral services were held from the home of her parents on east South street, on Sunday afternoon, April 13, and was largely attended. Many beautiful floral offerings testified to the love and esteem in which she was held by all who knew her.

Rev O.U. McProud of the Methodist church was assisted by Rev. W.H. Underwood in the services and the burial was made in the Blair cemetery.

The sad news was received here last Thursday evening of the death of Miss Minnie Nielsen at the Methodist hospital in Omaha, where she had undergone an operation a few days previous. Haggard & Bendorf went down the same evening and brought the body home, where the funeral was held at 2 o’clock Sunday afternoon, Rev. W.H. Underwood officiating, assisted by Rev. O.U. McProud. The day was a perfect one and the service was largely attended, Minnie having made so large an acquaintance while clerking in her father’s market and for Julius Mueller for so many years. The floral offerings were unusually large and beautiful. Minnie was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Chris S. Nielsen, of this city, and was one of twenty-two children, but seven of whom are now living; Mrs. Andrew Hoier, Mrs. Chris Gutschow, Mrs. Henry Petersen, Mrs. Torva Jorgensen, Mrs. Marion Stricklett and Mrs. Carl Gravenholt, all of this county, and Chris E. Nielsen, of Sioux City, Ia. Minnie had made two trips to Europe and was planning a third when taken ill. She was buried in the handsome gown she had crocheted with her own hands, the one that was awarded first prize at the State Fair at Lincoln a few years ago, and which was estimated to be worth at least $1000. The bereaved family have the sincere sympathy of the many friends she had made while serving them so long and so faithfully. The pallbearers were Mat and Frank Bendorf, Lonnie Madsen, Frederick Guyer, Archie Anderson and Henry Neissner.
