Paul Homer Nielsen, 86, of Blair, died Wednesday, March 2, 2005, at Blair. Memorial services were Sunday, March 6, at First Lutheran Church in Blair.

Paul Homer Frank Nielsen was born June 2, 1918, in New Denmark, New Brunswick, Canada, to Rev. Frank and Hilda Nielsen.

He attended high school in Racine, Wis., from 1932 until 1936, and entered the freshman class of Dana College in 1937. He graduated from Dana in 1941.

On Dec. 23, 1942, he married Ione Christensen in Green Bay, Wis.

Mr. Nielsen served in the armed forces from July 14, 1942, until his discharge on Dec. 22, 1945. After his military service, he studied at Columbia University Graduate School in 1946 before serving as the public relations director at Dana College from 1947 to 1953. He began a career as a financial advisor for IDS/American Express in 1953, and served in that capacity until his retirement in 1998.

He is survived by his daughters and son-in-law, Judith Refsell of Little Rock, Ark., and Sharon and George Rozanski of Omaha; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ione; a son-in-law, Stephen Refsell; great-granddaughter, Claire; brother, Mortimer; and sister, Vera.

Memorials are suggested to the Dana College Archives or the Dana Athletic Department.

Campbell-Aman Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
