Services were Monday, July 3 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church north of Arlington for Walt Nieman, 86 of Wayne, Nebraska and formerly of Arlington, Blair and Fremont, who died July 1, 1995 at the Providence Medical Center in Wayne. Rev. Michael Rogers officiated. Burial was in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Cemetery near Arlington.

Walt Nieman, son of Henry and Lizzie Franke Nieman, was born February 22, 1909 on a farm north of Arlington. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church north of Arlington. He attended St. Paul’s Parochial School. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church where he served as a trustee for many years.

He married Leona Giesselman March 15, 1931 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. They farmed in the Arlington area for 23 years before moving to Fremont in 1954. He worked for the Ford Motor Company in Fremont for 12 years.

In 1963, the couple moved to Blair where they operated Triggs-Nieman-Thew Carpet and Drapery Store until retiring. They moved to Wayne in 1994 to be near their daughter and her family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers and one son-in-law.

He is survived by his wife, Leona of Wayne; one daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Steve Schumacher of Wayne; one granddaughter and her husband, Sheri and Todd Hoeman and one grandson and his wife, Jeff and Kim Triggs, all of Wayne; four great-grandchildren, Stacie Hoeman, Kara Hoeman, Kyle Triggs and Jacob Triggs, nieces, nephews and three sisters-in-law.

Pallbearers were George Bluma, Harry Giesselman, Jr., Virgil Braasch, Keith Nieman, Boyd Giesselman and Art Wittmann.

Rosalyn Vogt was organist.

Schumacher Funeral Home in Wayne was in charge of arrangements.
