Harley Dean Rennerfeldt, 86

Harley Dean Rennerfeldt, 86, of Blair, died Saturday, Dec. 13, 2014.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 17, at the First Lutheran Church in Blair. Burial with military honors will be in the Blair Cemetery. Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Tuesday at Campbell-Aman Funeral Home in Blair with family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

Harley Dean Rennerfeldt was born Jan. 27, 1928, on a farm in Lyons to Carl Ellory and Gladys Louise (Johnson) Rennerfeldt.

Harley lived with his parents and four sisters: Shirley, Beverly, Janice and Yvonne. He spent a lot of time with his cousin, Harland, who was like a brother. Years later they would talk about the many different situations they got into when they were young and wondered how they even grew up to be adults.

Harley was baptized at West Side Methodist Church. He attended rural school and in the later years, Oakland High School. Harley enlisted in the United States Navy on Sept. 11, 1945, and on Oct. 12, 1945, he went into active duty. He received the World War II Victory Medal.

Harley returned to Oakland where he began his life working 41-plus years for the gas company in the Oakland, Tekamah and Blair area. He also received a plaque of 41 years of excellent driving. He was also a member of the 40 & 8, American Legion.

Harley married Dorothy Mae (Dew) April 24, 1949, in Fremont. From this marriage they had four daughters: Sandra, Connie, Carla and Lu Ann. In November 1958, Harley and Dorothy separated.

Harley married Elaine (Bondo) on June 12, 1959, and from that marriage they had one daughter, Claire.

Harley has been living in the Blair area for the last 55 years, enjoying life. In his early years he loved bowling, playing pool and shuffleboard. Harley enjoyed woodworking and made birdhouses, squirrel feeders, small benches and Aggravation game boards in his basement, which he gave away. After he retired, he would go uptown for coffee in the mornings and to the local bar in afternoons to visit with his friends. Whenever his mother and sisters would go on shopping trips on the holidays, they would stop to have coffee with him. Harley was well-known and liked by everyone who knew him.

He is survived by four daughters: Sandra Rennerfeldt of Tekamah, Carla (Randall) Hart of Tekamah, Lu Ann Friend (Jeff Swanson) of Lincoln and Claire (Gary) Ford of Blair; one sister Janice Schroeder of Oakland; ex-wife Elaine Hoyer of Blair; 10 grandchildren: Kip and Thomas Holbrook, Tara Hart, Andrea (Ben) Kerwood, Casey Friend, Tyler Friend, Britnee Friend (Josh Mills), Justin Meyers, Joshua Ford (Tami Ausherman) and Alycia (Ryan) Metcalf; and four great-grandchildren: Johnny, Jordan, Tristan and Jayden.

He was preceded in death by his parents; twin sister Beverly Lemke, sisters: Shirley Smith and Yvonne Magill; daughter Connie Holbrook; and great-grandchild Katie.

Memorials are suggested to the Blair Fire Department or Blair Rescue Squad.
