Obituary

The news of the death of Sylvester D. Nonnamaker came as a great shock to all of his friends and relatives. His illness was only of about a weeks duration. On Wednesday the 8th of August, he remarked to his wife that he never felt better and ate a hearty dinner but by evening he became sick and on Thursday morning was taken to Blair to consult a doctor. On Friday as he did not improve he returned to Blair. He remained there until Sunday morning and was taken to Nicholas Senn hospital in Omaha in hopes that an operation might relieve him, but he was growing rapidly worse and it was found impossible to operate. Everything that was possible for skilled doctors and nurses and friends to do was done, but of no avail and just one week from the day that he was taken sick at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday death claimed him.

Mrs. Nonnamaker and three sons were with him at the time of his death. The body was brought to Arlington on Thursday afternoon.

On Saturday at 2 p.m. the services were held at the farm home east of Arlington, Rev. Frank Williams, the pastor of the Methodist church conducted the services. He preached from Psalms 116-15, “Precious in the Sight of the Lord is the Death of His Saints.” The music was furnished by a quartette from the Methodist church. The large crowd of sorrowing friends, neighbors and relatives were mute testimony of the high esteem in which he was held. The floral offerings were many and beautiful.

Sylvester D. Nonnamaker was born October 18, 1861 near Bluffston, in Hancock county, Ohio. He was married on February 2, 1888 to Miss Lida Klengensmith, of Circleville, Ohio. They moved to Marion, Ohio, where they lived for two and one half years. They came west with their two-year-old son, Ed. They traveled by wagon and mule team and were five weeks on the way. They settled on a place they bought which was southeast of the Gene Cook place, later they bought the farm where the family now live, four and one half miles east of Arlington. They have lived on this place for twenty-seven years.

To them were born three boys and one girl: E.C. Nonemaker, of Arlington, Mrs. Herman Lueksen, of Hay Springs, Neb., and Floyd and Clare, of Arlington. His wife and all the children survive. He also leaves one brother, Frank, of Ponca, Okla., and two sisters, Mrs. Kemerer, of Findley, Ohio and Mrs. Klengensmith, of Tampa, Florida. There are also three half brothers and one half sister and two grandchildren.

Mr. Nonnamaker was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church at Arlington, Nebr. He was a sincere Christian and a highly respected citizen and the family have the heartfelt sympathy of the entire community.
