Phyllis Elaine (Andersen) Suverkrubbe, 92, of Blair, died Monday, Dec. 15, 2014, at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Emmaus Lutheran Church in Kennard. Interment is in the German Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday beginning at 3 p.m. at Campbell-Aman Funeral Home in Blair with family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

Phyllis Elaine (Andersen) Suverkrubbe was born Aug. 22, 1922, at the farm home of her parents, Rosie (Carlsen) and Torvel Andersen.

She was baptized Dec. 17, 1922, at Emmaus Lutheran Church in Kennard and was confirmed at Emmaus on June 20, 1937.

Phyllis attended school in Kennard and graduated from Kennard High School in 1939.

Phyllis married Russell H. Suverkrubbe on Oct. 10, 1940, at Grace Lutheran Church in Omaha.

Russell and Phyllis farmed in Washington County for more than 60 years, 56 of which were spent on the family farmstead south of Blair. Phyllis was active in church, farming and social and philanthropic organizations, including Cozy Corner Extension Club, Danish Brotherhood, MCH Auxiliary and Washington County Recycling. Phyllis won numerous awards for cooking and baking entries throughout the years and was an avid gardener. She continued to act as a cook and hostess even after moving to town. Phyllis' family benefited from her cooking prowess and no one was ever allowed to leave the house hungry. Phyllis used her cooking talents to connect with her family by sharing stories and passing down recipes and traditions, and never hesitated to serve family, friends and fellow church members. May we all find a way to do the same.

Phyllis always cherished time spent with friends at dances or playing cards and also took great pride in her family, which has grown to include six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Phyllis is survived by her son, Steven, of Omaha; granddaughters: Melinda (Martin) Rump of Blair, Jessica (Rodney) Madsen of Lincoln, Lana Phinney of Omaha, Lisa (Craig) Coston of Lake Elsinore, Calif., grandsons: Nathan (Melissa) Suverkrubbe of Blair and Adam Suverkrubbe of Omaha; brother Merle (Mardelle) Andersen of Kennard; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell; children: Bruce, Susan and Robert; sister and brother-in-law Evelyn and Elmer Wulf; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law Grace and Louie Kahnk.

Memorials may be directed to the German Cemetery or Emmaus Lutheran Church of Kennard.

“A Mother’s Love” (beside picture of Phyllis sitting by fence)

A mother’s love is like a thought; It always lingers somewhere near; As real as light at dawn; She gives it richly all her life; While with her children here; And even when she’s gone from earth; It makes her seem so near; The love she gave is in our hearts; And shall be forever; One whose love shall light our lives; And shine through eternity.
