Jane Noble Nore, 95

Blair native Jane Noble Nore, 95, of St. Edward, died Friday, March 22, 2002, at Cloverlodge Care Center in St. Edward.

Funeral services were Monday, March 25, at Zion Lutheran Church in Albion, with the Rev. Larry Sydow officiating. Interment was at Immanuel-Zion Cemetery in rural Albion.

Jane Noble Nore was born June 21, 1906, in Blair to George Herbert and Edna Josephine (Cantlin) Noble. She was baptized at the Congregational Church in Blair, and was confirmed at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church. She received her elementary education in Blair, and was a graduate of Blair High School.

She attended Dana College for two years, during which she and her sister, Betty, toured Denmark and other European countries with the Dana College Choir. She was a member of Delta Gamma sorority. She graduated from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln with a degree to teach English. She taught high school English in Humboldt and Omaha.

On Oct. 29, 1932, she married Melvin Christian Nore at the University Episcopal Church in Lincoln. They lived in Albion for several years, where she taught University Extension courses at Albion High School. The couple moved to Van Nuys, Calif., in 1941 to work at Lockheed Aircraft. She was the personal secretary to a corporate vice president.

In addition to a number of civic and social organizations, Mrs. Nore was very active in the Episcopal Church, Daughter of the American Revolution, Eastern Star and Sons of Norway. As recognition of the couple’s efforts, the Sons of Norway Lodge in Alta, Calif. was name Nore Lodge.

The couple traveled extensively. Following Mr. Nore’s stroke in 1984, they moved to Albion to be near family and friends.

Mrs. Nore was very active in community affairs, having served on the Senior Citizens Board, Wolf Memorial Home Board, as well as belonging to several social and bridge clubs. She has maintained close association with Dana College and UNL.

She is survived by many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin, and a sister, Elizabeth Noble.

Levander Funeral Home in Albion was in charge of arrangements.
