Eugene M. Noyes

Eugene M. Noyes, was found dead in the yard of his own home in Lincoln last Saturday morning. A 32-calibre revolver was lying by his side and the supposition was he committed suicide in a fit of despondency.

He had just kissed his wife good-bye and started for his work in the Havelock machine shops. His wife heard the report but never thought of it being her husband until ad neighbor called her.

The body was brought here for interment, and the funeral was held at the Baptist church at 2 o’clock yesterday afternoon. Rev. Cabeen officiating.

“Gene” as he was best known here, was the oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. N.E. Noyes, Sr., of this city, and here grew to manhood’s estate. He was born at Sand Hill, Mo., May 6th, 1875, but came here with his parents when but a boy. He was an excellent ball player and had played in many an amateur game. For the past ten years he has been a special mechanic in the Havelock shops and his companions say he was a good friend and a good workman. He has five brothers, Willert, who was also working in the Havelock shops, Hosea A. at Fremont, Clinton J. at Council Bluffs, N.E. Jr. and Clyde C. of this city. Also a sister, Mrs. Vesta Barnes, of Hastings.

#2 Tribune 15 Feb 1911

In a fit of despondency Eugene M. Noyes, a machinist employed in the Havelock shop, killed himself at 6 o’clock yesterday morning by firing a bullet in his brain while standing near the back door of his home, 2716 Starr street. He had started to work and as he went out of the front door he said goodby to his wife. Mr. Noyes was a skilled workman and had been in the service of the Havelock shops nearly seven years.---Lincoln Journal.

The above information came as quite a shock to Mr. Noyes’ many friends in this city, where he spent the greater part of his life. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. N.E. Noyes of this city and leaves, besides his father and mother, a wife, five brothers and two sisters to mourn his loss. The body was brought to Blair Monday and the funeral held Tuesday from the Baptist church. Rev. Cabeen conducting the services. The body was laid to rest in the Blair cemetery.
