SERVICES FOR NELS NYGAARD HELD DEC. 30TH

Funeral services for Nels P. Nygaard were held on Wednesday, December 30, at Zion Lutheran Church in Creighton, Nebraska. Pastor Kenneth Jacobsen of Plainview, Nebraska officiated. Mrs. Carl Nielsen of Creighton was the organist. Soloists were Mr. Carl Nielsen of Creighton who sang, “I Know of a Sleep in Jesus Name” and Rev. Fred V. Jensen of Evan, Minn. who sang in Danish, “Behold a Host in White Array.”

The six grandsons were pallbearers: Bruce, Bernard and Jerry Jorgensen, Curtis and Randy Nelson, and Frederik Jensen. The burial was in the Greenwood cemetery of Creighton, Nebraska. Lunch was served by the Ladies of Zion following the service.

Nels Peter Nygaard, son of the late Peter Nygaard and Fredrikke Miller, was born in Ringsted, Iowa, April 17, 1886. He was baptized into the same year.

Early in his childhood, in 1894, the family moved to the Creighton vicinity where they engaged in farming. He was confirmed in his Christian Faith at Bethany Lutheran Church in Plainview, Nebraska.

He attended school at Bazille Mills and also spent some time at the Academy of Dana College in Blair, Nebraska.

August 19, 1914, he was untied in marriage to Carrie Jensen at Bethany Lutheran Church in Plainview, Nebraska. To this union was born six children: two sons and four daughters. They made their home near Winnetoon and later near Royal, Nebraska where Nels farmed until 1940. They were members of Bethesda Lutheran Church in Winnetoon, Nebraska.

In 1940 they moved to the vicinity of Blair, Nebraska where they continued to farm until 1954 when they moved back to Creighton where they lived in semi-retirement.

In the Fall of 1967 they became residents of the Good Shepherd Home in Blair, Nebraska.

Nels passed away after a brief illness at the Community Memorial Hospital in Blair, Saturday, December 26, 1970 at the age of 84, 8 months and 9 days.

He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Carrie, of the Good Shepherd Home in Blair; his brother, Andrew, also of the Good Shepherd Home; two sons, Rev Marvin Nygaard of Huxley, Iowa; Rev. Gerhard Nygaard of Northfield, Minnesota; four daughters: Vera, Mrs. Clarence Nelson of Creighton, Nebraska; Alta, Mrs. Carl Jorgensen of Creighton, Nebraska; Wilma, Mrs. Dale Hill of Milton, Pennsylvania; Janice, Mrs. Fred V. Jensen of Evan, Minnesota; 21 grand-children, 2 great-grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.

One brother and two sisters preceded him in death.
