Louis G. Nielsen, 82

Louis G. Nielsen, 82, died Sunday, Dec. 31, 2006, at his home in Kennard.

Funeral services were Thursday, Jan. 4, at Emmaus Lutheran Church in Kennard. Interment was in the Kennard Cemetery.

Louis Gordon Nielsen was born May 18, 1924, in Blair to Andrew and Muriel (Stricklett) Nielsen. He lived in the rural Fort Calhoun area until he married Maxine Voss on Feb. 20, 1946. Their first home was near Herman. After three or four years, they moved to the Blair area and then, in 1950, to Kennard.

Mr. Nielsen worked as a farm hand, drove truck for Kennard Transfer, was a welder at Con-C-Co in Blair, and was a mechanic at Keenan Rental in Omaha. While at Keenan’s, he was offered a job at Northwestern Bell in Omaha. He retired from Northwestern in 1984.

Mr. Nielsen spent many days coyote hunting. Family and friends joined into watching the dogs run and hearing them howl during the chase. He was involved in and loved stock cars for many years. He was a super mechanic and could hear a problem with a motor. He is remembered as a “man of perfection” who knew how things should be done and expected it to be done that way.

He restored and showed his little Broncos at car shows and received several trophies for his efforts. He also loved to go camping and get away. The couple enjoyed many wonderful trips since Mrs. Nielsen’s retirement in 1990.

The Nielsens had celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 2006 and, just within the last three months, they had downsized and moved into a new home, right next to the home they had lived in for 38 years. He was very content and happy with their move.

He is survived by his wife, Maxine; daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Darrel Timperley of Norfolk; daughter-in-law, Roxanne Nielsen of Kennard; eight grandchildren and their families; three great-grandchildren; sister, Jennilou (Mrs. Sheldon) Warrick of Blair; sister-in-law, Ann Knutzen of Omaha; and two nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son, Dennis.

Memorials are suggested to the Kennard Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad, Emmaus Lutheran Church, or the Kennard Cemetery.

Campbell-Aman Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

God saw the road was getting rough,
The hills were hard to climb;
And so he closed his loving eyes
And whispered peace be thine,
The weary days, the hours of pain,
The weary nights are past.
The ever-patient worn out frame
Has found “sweet rest” at last.
