James A. Crumb, 53

Funeral services for James A. Crumb, 53, of Blair, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 29, 2006, at Country Bible Church in Blair. Interment will be in the Blair Cemetery.

Mr. Crumb died July 26, at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair following a three-year struggle with cancer.

Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. Friday, July 28, at Country Bible Church, with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

James A. Crumb was born May 29, 1953, in Wichita, Kan., to Glenn and Neva (Grabe) Crumb He attended elementary school in Lincoln and attended three years at Roosevelt High School on the Emporia State campus, and graduated from Emporia (Kan.) High School.

He attended Emporia State University and received a bachelor of science degree in physics from Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, Ky. He received his master’s degree in physics from the University of Kansas at Lawrence.

In 1975, he married Elizabeth Jordan in Fredonia, Kan. The couple lived in Lawrence prior to moving to Champaign, Ill.

Mr. Crumb was vice president of BankIllinois Co., and also worked in Christian campus ministries at the University of Illinois.

In 1992, they moved to Blair, where he was employed with MACC of HunTel Systems, for five years. He then went to work for World Media, a subsidiary of the Omaha World-Herald and in 2000, joined Midland Systems Integrators, where he was employed until the time of his death.

He was an active member of Country Bible Church, where he served as deacon, Sunday school teacher, and small group leader. He was also active in the Blair community, serving as president of the Blair Soccer Association and coaching many soccer teams.

He is survived by his wife, Libby; three sons, Corban, Jordan and Benjamin; a daughter, Kathryn, all of Blair; parents, Glenn and Neva Crumb of Topeka, Kan.; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Judith and Larry Ball of Emporia, Kan., and Nancy and Marvin Hinten of Wichita; a brother and sister-in-law, Steve and Sue Crumb of Mokena, Illinois; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorials are directed to the James Crumb Educational Fund.

Campbell-Aman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

SOFTWARE DESIGNER JAMES CRUMB, 53, DIES

James A. Crumb was a leader in computer software design and marketing. In the 1980’ss he was a vice president of BankIllinois Co. in Champaign, Ill., where he worked to develop software for billing statements on cell phone usage. He marketed the software across the country and internationally.

“He was one of those innovators,” said his wife, Libby.

After moving to Blair in 1992, he worked for a division of HunTel Systems for five years. In 1997 he was general manager of Dotcom Marketing of Omaha, one of several companies creating a Web site with information on 23 athletic teams at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. In 2000, he joined Midland Systems Integrators.

He died Wednesday of colon cancer at Blair Memorial Community Hospital. He was 53. Funeral services are 10 a.m. Saturday at County Bible Church in Blair.

He was an active member of the church, serving as a deacon, a Sunday school teacher and a small group leader. He was a past president of the Blair Soccer Association, maintained soccer fields, refereed and coached boys and girls soccer teams of various ages.

“He had such an impact on people,” his wife said, “He was one of those win-win people. All of his cups overflowed.”

Crumb is survived by sons Corban, Jordan and Benjamin and daughter Kathryn, all of Blair. He is also survived by his parents, Glenn and Neva (Graber) Crumb of Topeka, Kan.; two sisters and a brother.
