(Veteran Flag) Rick D. Bowen, 63

Rick D. Bowen, 63, of Blair, died Friday, Jan. 2, 2015, at his home.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, at Campbell-Aman Funeral Home in Blair.

Rick D. Bowen was born in Hamburg, Iowa, on Nov. 28, 1951, to Dick and Helen (Kuhns) Bowen of Nishnabotna, Mo. He was the youngest of three sons.

His parents moved to Blair where Rick graduated from high school in 1970. He acquired his love of football when he played for the Blair Bears.

After high school, he joined the United States Navy. His almost four years of service was a great source of pride for him and his family.

Rick married Jody Block and their daughter, Corby, was born in 1978.

He worked for the Conservation Service and the Papio NRD, transferring to the Army Corps of Engineers until retiring.

Rick had a talent for drawing and painting, even some woodworking.

When Corby was growing up, Rick was always up for a game, like playing SORRY! for a millionth time to chess matches that lasted days.

He taught Corby to fish, passed on his love for mushroom hunting, and how to take the scenic route everywhere. He was always reading or watching and collecting movies, and no one he ever knew had to rent one. Of all the interests and things he loved, his grandson, Drayk, was the most cherished.

He is survived by daughter, Corby Bowen; grandson Drayk Bowen; mother Helen (Kuhns) Bowen, all of Blair; brother and sister in-law Gary and Donna Bowen, of Carson, Iowa; brother and sister-in-law Mike and Linda Bowen of Blair; aunt Kathy Walker of Holt Summit, Mo.; and uncle Lonnie Kuhns, of Rockport, Mo.; along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, Dick Bowen.
