Sledding Accident Claims Life Of 12 Year Old Blair Youth

Services For Jeff Forsberg Were Tuesday

Tragedy struck among the cheerful glees of children sledding on the hills of the Blair Swimming Pool Park. The Sunday afternoon accident Jan. 4 took the life of 12 year old Jeffrey Roy Forsberg, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Forsberg of Blair.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the First Lutheran Church in Blair. Rev. Robert Albers was in charge of the service. Burial was in the Blair Cemetery.

Jeff was born on March 6, 1957 at Blair.

Pallbearers were Wesley Pieschke, Terry Studola, Kermit Clark, Charles Blankenbeckler, Jr., Brad Ferris and Brian Stricklett.

Several children were sledding on the hill, in the southeast part of the park, at the time of the accident. Jeff’s sled skidded off the course and hit a steel pole sideways.

Jeff managed to walk to a car despite his pain. Reportedly he passed out enroute to the hospital.

The accident took place at the bottom of a curving obstacle course between trees, bushes and the steel poles. The poles are designed to keep cars from driving up onto the grass in the park. It was at the corner of LaFayette Street and Davis Drive near the park’s shelter.

Jeff is survived by his mother and father, one brother, Tim and one sister, Linda. Grandmother is Mrs. Minnie Klindt.

Jeff was a member of Boy Scout Troop 232 and he Blair Mini-Wheels Square Dancing Club and First Lutheran Church in Blair.

Mr. and Mrs. John Forsberg have stated that they would like to start a memorial fund to obtain a safe sledding site for the youngsters of the area.

Sievers Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
