Margaretha Kahnk

Mrs. Margaretha Kahnk died of old age, March 11, 1916, at the home of her son, August, south of town. Mrs. Kahnk was born in Diekhusen, Holstein, Germany, Dec. 6, 1827. She was married in 1854 to John Kahnk, and four years later the young people came to this country and for a few years made their home at Moline, Ill. They then came to Washington Co. where she has made her home ever since, Mr. Kahnk died March 17, 1892. In July, 1912, Mrs. Kahnk suffered a paralytical stroke and has since been confined to her room. She was the mother of four boys and one girl. One son, August, and her daughter, Mrs. Fritz Cornelius, survive her, at-also twenty-two grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. The funeral was held from the home of her son yesterday with interment at the German cemetery. Mrs. Kahnk will be remembered kindly by many of the older residents here. Mrs. Margaretta Kahnk died of old age March 11, 1916, at the home of her son August Kahnk, south of Kennard. Deceased was born Dec. 6, 1827 at Deekhusen, Holstein, Germany. She was married to John Kahnk in 1854. They came to this country about 50 years ago and lived at Moline, Ill., for a few years. They came to Washington county and settled down on a farm near Kennard. They had five children, two boys died when small and one boy died when 16 years old. One daughter, Mrs. Fritz Cornelius and one son, August, survives her, also 22 grand-children and 6 great-grandchildren. The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon at the house and the Germanian hall. The remains were placed to rest in the German cemetery.

Mrs. Margaretha Kahnk died March 11, at the home of her son, August Kahnk, the cause of her death being the infirmities of age. Deceased was born in Dukelhome, Schleswig-Holstein, Ger., December 6, 1827 and was married to John Kahnk in 1854, coming to America 50 years ago and settling first at Moline, Ill., subsequently coming to this county on the land where they both died, her husband leaving her widowed on March 17, 1892. Deceased had a paralytic stroke in 1912 and had been confined to her bed most of the time since. Two children, George Kahnk and Mrs. Fritz Cornelius, survive.
