Andrew Beck, 95, Died Sunday at Blair Hospital

Andrew Beck, 95-year-old resident of Blair and Washington County, died last Sunday at Memorial Community Hospital.

He had lived here all of his life, having been born at Orum on August 30th, 1878. He was a farmer as a younger man, but had been retired since 1961.

He was the last Washington County veteran of the Spanish American War. He entered military service June 1, 1898, at the age of 20. He was in service almost a year, leaving the service at Augusta, Georgia in May, 1899. During his military service he went to Cuba where he saw action.

He was married June 23, 1910, at Blair to Julene Kjelene.

He is survived by two daughters and three sons. There are nine grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. His wife preceded him in death.

The daughters are Mrs. William Gutschow (Doris), of Scribner; and Mrs. David Ludwick (Pearl) of Omaha. The sons are Raymond, of Chicago, Lloyd of Billings, Montana and Andrew Beck, Jr., of Omaha.

Funeral services were held at the First Lutheran Church Wednesday, November 21st. The service was conducted by the Rev. Sanford Sorgen and burial was made in the Blair Cemetery under the direction of the Campbell Mortuary.

Pallbearers were James Gutschow, Jerry Gutschow, Ray Gutschow, George Larsen, Chris Gutschow and Harry Beck.
