PASSING OF HANS BECKMANN

Hans Beckmann, a well-known and well-to-do farmer who located west of the Papio, near Sol. Barton’s, some 40 years ago, died last night at 12 o’clock. He had been in poor health for some time and critically ill for about three weeks with a complication of diseases which developed a virulent attack of pneumonia, the direct cause of his death. He leaves a wife and one son, Max, to mourn his demise. Arrangements for the funeral have not been made at the time of going to press.

Hans Beckmann died at his farm home, seven miles northwest of Blair, last Thursday evening of lung and heart trouble, following an illness of about three weeks duration.

The body was brought to the Blair Cemetery Sunday afternoon. The Rev. J. M. Kokjer, of the Congregational Church, held a short service at the grave. A large company of friends accompanied the remains to their last resting place.

Mr. Beckmann was born in Calks, Holstein, Germany, March 17th, 1849 and came to America in 1869. He lived with his uncle near Ft. Calhoun for number of years.

On December 7th, 1882 he was married to Mrs. Amelia Bohs and settled on the farm that was his home for thirty-two years. The wife and one son, Max, who lives at home, survive him. Also surviving are one sister, Mrs. Crack, of Meeker, Colo., and two brothers, Marcus, who lives in Idaho, and Fritz, in Germany.

Mrs. Henry Faber and Andrew Bohs, who live on a farm near DeSoto, are children of Mrs. Beckmann by her first marriage.

OBITUARY

Once again the grim reaper reaches out and takes away two more of the old and highly respected citizens of this community.

Hans Beckmann passed away last Thursday evening at his country home. He had been in poor health for some time past and recently contracted pneumonia which hastened his sad demise.

Mr. Beckmann was born in Calks, Holstein, now of Germany, on March 7, 1840, and was therefore 65 years, 7 months and one day old. He came to the United States in 1860 locating near Calhoun where he resided with his uncle, Hans Beckmann, until December 7, 1882, when he was married to Mrs. Amelia Bohs and went to live on the farm 7 miles northwest of Blair where he spent the remainder of his days.

Besides his wife there is one son, Max, that survives. Also surviving are two children of his wife, Mrs. Henry Faber, and Andrew Bohs of Calhoun, one sister, Mrs. Crack, of Meeker, Colo., and two brothers, Fritz, of Germany, and Marcus, of Idaho.

Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon by Rev. J. M Kokjer and interment made in the Blair Cemetery.

Hans Beckmann was born in Calks, Holstein, in Germany, March 7, 1849. He came to the United States in 1869, locating near Calhoun where he resided with his uncle, Hans Beckmann, until December 7, 1882, when he was married to Mrs. Amelia Bohs, and located on a farm seven miles northwest of Blair where he spent the remainder of his days.

Besides his wife there is his son, Max that survives him. He is survived by children of his wife’s, Mrs. Henry and Andrew Bohs of Blair, leaves one sister, Mrs. Crack, of Meeker Colo., and two brothers, Fritz of Germany, and Marcus, of Idaho.

Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon by Rev. J. M. Kokjer and the remains were laid to rest in the Blair Cemetery.
