GARY D. ANDREWS, 49

Gary D. Andrews, 49, of Marshall, Texas, a Blair High School alumnus, died Thursday, Nov. 12, 1998, at Good Shepherd Medical Center in Longview, Texas.

Services were Monday, Nov. 16, at the Austin St. Chapel of the Sullivan Funeral Home, Marshall, with the Rev. Jerry Thomas officiating.

Burial was in the Algoma Cemetery-North in Marshall.

Pallbearers were Mitch Augustine, Raymond Bice, Morgan Muse, Brad Allen, Jim Cummerford, Donald Beckner and honorary pallbearer was Jess Casey.

Gary Douglas Andrews was born Aug. 1, 1949, in Wayne to Kermit and Rayoma (Heikes) Andrews.

He received his education in the Blair Public Schools.

On April 10, 1971, he married Jannie Fay Harris in Fort Worth, Texas.

He served as an instruments specialist in the U.S. Air Force from December 1967 to November 1987. He received the Air Force Commendation Medal with one oak leaf cluster, Achievement Medal, Outstanding Unit Award with valor and one oak leaf cluster, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with four bronze service stars, Overseas Short Tour and Long Tour Ribbons, Longevity Service Award Ribbon and four oak leaf clusters, NCO Professional Military Education Graduate Ribbon, Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon, Training Ribbon, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with palm, Vietnam Presidential Unit Citation, Good Conduct Medal with five oak leaf clusters and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.

He played quarterback for the RAF Mildenhall and RAF Alconbury teams while stationed at both bases. He was the league’s leading quarterback for the United Kingdom in the 1979-80 season.

He was a member of the Marshall Men’s Bowling Association and the Rusty Rail Country Club, Jefferson, Texas.

He is survived by his wife, Jannie, of Marshall; one son and daughter-in-law, Scott Douglas and Jacki Andrews of Marshall; one daughter, Stacey Dawn Jones of Marshall; two grandchildren, Maeghan Jones and Blake Andrews of Marshall; his parents, Kermit and Rayoma Andrews of Bella Vista, Ark.; one brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Yvonne Andrews of Omaha; two nephews and one niece and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Sullivan Funeral Home in Marshall was in charge of arrangements.
