Funeral services were held at Sievers-Sprick Funeral Home in Fort Calhoun, on Tuesday, September 8, for Helen Margaret Kay, 83, who passed away on Saturday, September 5, 1987 at Good Shepherd Home in Blair. Pastor Jim McBride officiated and interment was made in German Cemetery, north of Bennington. Sievers-Sprick Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Kay was born Mary 11, 1904 northwest of Fort Calhoun, the daughter of Ude and Bertha Thaden. She lived in the Fort Calhoun area, attending the Fort Calhoun School system. On September 14, 1927 she married Herman Kay, and to this union three children were born, two boys and one girl. They were Howard Kay of Blair, Harvey Kay of Herman and Darlene, who died in infancy. She was a devoted mother, and a farm wife, until moving to Blair in October of 1977. In 1978, Helen was confirmed into the Lutheran faith.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman, on February 28, 1978, her daughter, Darlene, two brothers, Otto and Reinhart, and one sister, Hulda.

Mrs. Kay is survived by two sons, Howard and Harvey, brother Rudy Thaden of Blair, and three sisters, Sophie (Stelgriede) of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Edith (Puls) of Arlington, Nebraska; and Celia (Haskins) of Three Rivers, Michigan. Six grandchildren also survive; Mary Ellen Camden of Blair; David Kay of Rawlett, Texas; James Kay, Fremont, Nebraska; Cammie Kay of Tekamah, Nebraska, and Tim Sterner of Missouri. There are seven great-grandchildren, John, Chris, Bruce and Tracy Camden, all of Blair; Jessica and Matthew Kay of Fremont; and Justin Kay of Tekamah; and seven nieces, ten nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews.
