Irvin R. Kay, 81

Funeral services for Irvin R. Kay, 81, of Kennard, were held Wednesday, March 6, 2002, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Bennington with the Rev. Anna Terman-White officiating. Interment was at the Elk City Cemetery. Mr. Kay died March 3 at Crowell Memorial Home in Blair.

Irvin Randall Kay was born July 18, 1920, in rural Bennington to Carl and Ida (Moeller) Kay. He grew up on the farm in Washington County, northeast of Bennington, where he attended Wranch School through the 10th grade.

On Feb. 26, 1941, he married Faye I. Kerstetter at the Elk City United Methodist Church in Elk City. The couple raised their two sons in the Bennington area, and shared 61 years together.

Mr. Kay was a lifelong farmer and, following his retirement, a bus driver for the Bennington and Washington Schools. He enjoyed gardening and planting trees, but most of all, he loved to spend time with his family. He loved to travel, go dancing, and visit with friends and neighbors. He was a member of both the Blair and Elkhorn Fraternal Order of Eagles. In 2001, even though the weather did not cooperate, Irvin and Faye Kay celebrated a joyous 60th wedding anniversary with a multitude of friends.

He is survived by his wife, Faye, sons and daughters-in-law, Glenn and Denise Kay of Valley, and Merlin and Annette Kay of Kennard, five grandchildren, and one great-grand-daughter.

Memorials are suggested to St. John’s Lutheran Church or to the Elk City Cemetery.

Hadan Golden Reichmuth Funeral Home in Bennington was in charge of arrangements.
