Raymond Ryder, 90

Raymond Ryder, 90, of Blair, died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2015, at Crowell Home in Blair.

Services are 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 16, at the Congregational Church in Blair. Burial will follow in the Blair Cemetery.

Raymond Ryder was born Dec. 11, 1924, in Omaha to Roy H. and Susie M. (Nichols) Ryder.

Raymond grew up in Omaha and attended district 49, a one-room schoolhouse. He later attended Tech High School in Omaha and graduated in November 1941.

In September 1946, Raymond joined the United States Army and then later volunteered to join the newly formed United States Air Force. In 1948, he was honorably discharged from the United States Air Force.

On August 11, 1951, he was united in marriage to Ellen Grimit in Atlantic, Iowa. The couple made their home in Omaha. In 1953, the couple purchased an acreage in Ponca Hills. In 1958, the couple purchased a farm near Blair and built their new home.

While he was working for the Fifth Army Supply Depot and later the Corps of Engineers, he attended Omaha University four nights a week.

After his graduation from college, he began working for the Internal Revenue Service, then three years later he started his own accounting business in Blair. In 1994, Raymond sold his business and retired.

After his retirement, he and Ellen enjoyed taking many trips together.

He is survived by his wife, Ellen, of Blair; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law: Lawrence (Ann) Grimit, Richard (Mary) Grimit and Robert (Patricia) Grimit; sister-in-law Laura (Don) Orris; nieces and nephews; special friends Mitchell and Mary Jean Rahlfs; and caregivers Veronica Clark and Robin Casey.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughters: Leota Ann Langston and Hazel Irene Kramer.

Memorials may be directed to the Salvation Army-Washington County at 652 South 23rd Street, Blair, NE 68008.
