Mrs. M.H. Smith died at her home in DeSoto last Sunday morning of old age, being 83 years, 5 months and 5 days old. The funeral was held at 2:30 Monday afternoon, Elder Carl P. Self, of Omaha, officiating. Elizabeth Oberst was born in the state of New York Dec. 28th, 1833, and later moved to Ohio, where she was married to Martin H. Smith Nov. 10th, 1853, in the city of Woodville, Sandusky county. Three sons and one daughter were born to them, the daughter, Mrs. J.M. Wild, being the only survivor. Marion died at the age of 2 ½ years, Columbus at 32, Lee died March 29, 1916, at the age of 52 years. Her husband died Dec. 10th, 1903. She is survived by one brother, Chris Oberst, of Ray, Indi.; and six grandchildren, Belva Wild; Arline, Seymour and Roland Smith; Mrs. Sidney McCoy and Raymond Booth. Also two great-grandchildren, Gladys and Lowell McCoy. Mrs. Smith had lived in the vicinity of DeSoto for 35 years and had surrounded herself with a large number of friends who knew and appreciated her sterling character and kindly, generous nature. She will be long remembered by all who knew her.
