Emma Katt Is Buried At Fremont

Mrs. John (Emma) Katt, age 91, of Hooper died early Friday morning, December 12, 1980 at Memorial Hospital of Dodge County in Fremont, following a brief illness.

The daughter of Henry and Caroline Bohling, she was born at Hooper on January 20, 1889, and had lived in that area her entire lifetime. She was baptized February 10, 1889, and confirmed April 5, 1903, at Immanuel Lutheran Church at Hooper.

On April 28, 1915, she was united in marriage to John W. Katt at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Winslow, the late Rev. J.H. Gerdes performing the ceremony. At the time of her death, she was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church of Hooper. Following her marriage, they farmed in the Herman area for 12 years and then lived on a small acreage at Winslow for 28 years retiring into Hooper in 1954.

Survivors include two daughters, Orletha Katt and Mrs. Wallace (Hilda) Wittmann both of Hooper; and one son, Elmer Katt of Herman. Seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Paul (Alma) Panning of Fremont; and four brothers, Otto, Louis of Fremont, Emil of Arvada, Colorado and William of Arlington also survive.

She was preceded in death by her husband on August 9, 1964, and by four sisters and two brothers.

Funeral services were held on Monday, December 15, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hooper. Rev. K.W. Ernstemeyer officiated. Burial was in the Memorial Cemetery at Fremont.

Music for the service was provided by Mrs. James Dam, organist; and a duet composed of Mr. and Mrs. Elray Buckendahl.

Warne Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements for the services.
