James T. Keenan, 71

James T. Keenan, 71, died Friday, Nov. 30, 2007, at his home in Arlington.

Services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4, at Arlington Community Church. Interment, with military honors conducted by Arlington American Legion Post No. 71 and Veteran of Foreign Wars Post No. 8332, will be in the Arlington Cemetery.

Visitation began Monday, and will be held one hour prior to services, at the church.

James T. Keenan was born Aug. 2, 1936, in Fremont, to James and Evelyn (Fagg) Keenan. He grew up in Arlington and graduated from Arlington High School in 1954.

He served in the U.S. Army in Europe and southeast Asia from Aug. 28, 1959, to Aug. 17, 1961. He graduated from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln in 1963 with a bachelor of science degree in engineering.

He lived in South Sioux City from 1963 to 1967.

On June 27, 1964, he married Karen A. Anderson in Arlington.

He established Arlington Engineering in 1967, and operated the company until 2007. Projects he worked on included marine construction and dredging; seaport construction world-wide, widening of waterways, including the Suez Canal; worked with Peter Kiewit & Sons in compressed-air tunneling and sunken roadways. He worked with Dugdale Construction on Interstate 80, Interstate 29, and Interstate 680 projects. He contracted with the U.S. General Services Commission for building construction and renovation in Nebraska and western Iowa.

He was an Eagle Scout with two palms; received the God and Country award in Scouting; served as a Scout Master for Troop 145 in Arlington; and an American International Boy Scout Troop in Badnauhiem, Germany.

Mr. Keenan was a member of the Arlington Community Church; was a member and past commander of American Legion Post 71 of Arlington and member of the Arlington VFW Post No. 8332.

His hobby was woodworking.

He is survived by his wife, Karen; daughters and sons-in-law, Karleen and Tim Petersen and Kristine Keenan Timm and Brian Timm, all of Arlington; three grandchildren; brother-in-law and wife, Gary and Janet Anderson of Fremont; three sister-in-law and husbands, Mary Jean and Delbert Hively of Fremont, Marie and Doug Lange of Grand Island, and Vickie Anderson of Fremont.

He was preceded in death by his parents; mother and father-in-law, Oscar and Carol Anderson; and brother-in-law, Tom Anderson.

Memorials are suggested to the Arlington Community Church or the Arlington Veterans Club.
