Paul V. Hansen, Blair Businessman, Died Sunday, Aug. 29

Had Worked Tirelessly For Many Community Projects

P. V. Hansen, well known Blair real estate and insurance man, died last Sunday, August 29th at Memorial Community Hospital. Death was attributed to cancer from which he had suffered for many months.

Mr. Hansen could be termed a community leader who gave much of his time and his effort for community things. He had a special interest in good things, such as education, church, care for the aged, and civic planning. He leaves a heritage of accomplishments for which Blair will be a better place for generations to come.

Paul Vincent Hansen was born at Blair March 7, 1904. He was 67 years of age at the time of his death.

He was the son of Dr. and Mrs. C. X. Hansen and this childhood background of church and college carried through his entire life. He attended and graduated from the Blair schools and then continued his education at Dana College.

After graduation he was Treasurer and business manager of the college. Later, from 1954 to 1966 he was a member of the Dana College Board of Regents. After that, for several years he filled the post of Advisor to the President.

In time, his own son, P. V. Hansen Jr., became a Dana Alumnus and he, too, was a member of the Dana teaching staff for a time.

He was Treasurer of the United Evangelical Lutheran Church for a number of years prior to its merger with the American Lutheran Church in 1960. After the merger he became a member of the Investment Committee of the American Lutheran Church.

He was a long-time member of the Blair Chamber of Commerce and served one term as its President. He was a Past President of the Blair Rotary Club and was a member of the organization at the time of his death. He had been a member of the Blair Lions Club for many years and had been serving on the city’s Planning Commission.

He was instrumental in the establishment of the Good Shepherd Home for the Aged and for 19 years was a member of the Home’s Board of Trustees. During much of the time he served as Treasurer of the organization and was very active at the time the building program was being carried on.

In his private business, he headed the Blair Insurance Association and took part in District and State Insurance Association activities.

He is survived by his wife, Ethel and by a son, Paul, Jr., of Kenosha, Wisconsin. There are three grandchildren.

In addition, there are four surviving brothers. They are Harold E. of Blair; Elliot G. of Templeton, California; Winston C. of Casper, Wyoming and Ernest W. of Clarkston, Washington. A sister, Mrs. Bernard Wulf, lives at Blair.

Funeral services were held at the First Lutheran Church Wednesday afternoon with the Rev. Robert Albers conducting the service. Burial, under the direction of the Bendorf Funeral Home was made in the Blair cemetery.
