James F. Kelly III, 63

James F. Kelly III, 63, of Fort Calhoun, died Saturday, Dec. 13, 2008, in Fort Calhoun.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 17, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Fort Calhoun. Interment will be in the Fort Calhoun Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 16, at the church, with a vigil service at 7 p.m.

James Francis Kelly III was born Nov. 9, 1945, in Omaha to Dr. James and Mary (Dunleavy) Kelly. He lived in Omaha until 1979, before moving to West Point, where he lived until 2002; and then moved to Fort Calhoun.

He served in the United States Army in Vietnam and was a First Sergeant in the National Guard. He served as a deputy with the Douglas County Sheriff’s office for seven years, and retired after 21 years from the Nebraska State Patrol.

He was a member of the Fort Calhoun VFW and the Knights of Columbus.

On Sept. 7, 1973, he married Patty Welchert in Blair.

Survivors include his wife, Patty; daughters and sons-in-law, Heather and Tom Theisen and children, Chelsea, Christian, Zachary, Christopher, Michael, Jordan, Jack and Maggie; Bridget and Joe Hammond and children, Ryan and Ethan; Erin and Clint Johnson and children, Nicholas, Megan, Preston and Kallie; Tricia Kelly, and Rachel Kelly; sons and daughter-in-law, James F. Kelly IV, Patrick Kelly, Matthew Sr. and Becky Kelly and child, Matthew Jr.; and John Kelly and girlfriend, Cassie; 15 grandchildren; sisters, Marian Monning and Coleen Kelly; brothers, Tim, Gene, Greg, Kevin, Donald and Sean Kelly; as well as a large, extended family and many special friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Jane Kelly.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Emergency Pregnancy Services in Omaha, or the Salvation Army.

Sievers-Sprick Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

VISITATION Tuesday December 16, 2008, 5-7pm with Vigil Service at 7pm both at St. John the Baptist Church in Ft. Calhoun, NE FUNERAL SERVICE Wednesday December 17, 2008 at 10am also at the Church.
