Services for Lloyd Edward Mencke, 79 of Blair who died January 29, 1995 at Good Shepherd Home in Blair will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, February 1 at First Lutheran Church. Burial will be in the Blair Cemetery.

Masonic services will be 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with services conducted by Herman Landmark Lodge No. 222.

Lloyd Edward Mencke was born December 9, 1915 northwest of Blair to Louie and Lillie King Mencke. He attended elementary school at Kennard, Pleasant View and Cuming City, graduating from Blair High School in 1934.

He married Dorothy Bishop June 5, 1940 at Hooper, Nebraska.

He lived and farmed near Telbasta from 1940 – 1944 and south of Herman from 1944 – 1988. In 1966, he was elected Washington County assessor and served until 1974.

He helped to establish the Herman Rural Fire Department; served on the Glendale School No. 45 school board; was a past member of the Herman Landmark Masonic Lodge No. 222; and was a member of the Herman Methodist Church.

In 1988, he retired and moved to Johansen Manor at Blair.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; a son, Lee Mencke of Blair; a daughter and son-in-law, Ruth and Robert Gnuse of Arlington; a son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Jaccie Mencke of Herman; six grandchildren, Douglas and his wife, Mary Gnuse; Michael Gnuse, David Gnuse, Matthew Gnuse, Brent Mencke and Craig Mencke; and a sister and brother-in-law, Inez and Harry Dexheimer of Blue Springs, Missouri.

Campbell-Aman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
