GEORGE MENCKE

Funeral services for George Mencke of Blair will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 13, at First Lutheran Church. Burial will follow in the Blair Cemetery.

Rev. Carl Schattauer and Rev. Jim McBride will be officiating. Clare Cowing will be the organist, and Homer Nielsen will be the vocalist.

Pallbearers will be Dareld Ahrens; Clarence Brosam; Ralph Madsen; Darrell Miller; Robert H. Peterson; and Martin Voss.

Honorary pallbearers will be Milton Carlberg; Harold E. Christensen; Clarence Hansen; Arthur S. Jensen; Alvin Katt; Howard Loftis; Edward Newkirk; Merle Newkirk; Larry Petersen; Robert Petersen; and John Taylor, Jr.

A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, at Campbell Funeral Home in Blair.

Mencke, 75, died March 10 at Memorial Community Hospital, Blair.

He was born September 1, 1911, near Blair to Gust and Minnie Goedeker Mencke.

HE grew up west of Blair and attended the Rose Hill School.

On May 14, 1940, he was united in marriage to Louise Schneider. They farmed west of Blair and northwest of Arlington until retirement in November, 1976, at which time they moved to Blair.

Mencke was president of the Sutherland School District for many years, and was president and deacon of Immanuel Lutheran Church at Orum before moving to Blair.

He is survived by his wife, Louise; one daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Dale Miller of Blair; two grandchildren, Rochelle Meridith of Florida and Todd Miller of Blair; and by one brother, Hans Mencke of Blair.

Mencke was preceded in death by his parents and 13 brothers and sisters.
