#1 HANS MENCKE

Hans Mencke, 84, lifetime Washington County farmer and stockman died June 5, 1988, after several months illness of cancer. He was born August 29, 1903 west of Blair to Gust and Minnie Godeker Mencke. He grew up west of Blair and attended Rose Hill School.

On March 5, 1930 he was united in marriage to Ethel Blanche Peterson. A son, Darlow, was born to this union. They farmed north of Blair, then moved to a farm northwest of Kennard. Ethel died May 14, 1959.

Hans retired from farming in the early 60’s and moved to Blair where he worked for the city a number of years. He served as a member of the Brewster School Board for many years.

On February 2, 1979, Hans married Myrna Olsen Hagedorn who survives him. Other survivors include his son, Darlow of Uehling; three grandsons and one great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife; and 14 brothers and sisters. Also survived by two stepchildren: Mrs. Karen Vosberg of Omaha and Darrell Hagedorn of Washington, Nebraska; nine step-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at First United Methodist Church on Tuesday, June 7, at 11:00 a.m. with burial in the Blair cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers: Dale Miller, Steve Mencke, Tom Mencke, Robert Brothers, Robert Gnuse, and Harry Dexheimer.
